Long-anticipated installation of Apple's Snow Leopard with VoiceOver!!!

Good day, all. It is time for possibly one of the best and most anticipated podcasts that BlindWorld has ever attempted to do. On August 28, Apple released Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard. This version of the Mac OS has some very significant updates to VoiceOver, and I thought it would be really neat to do a complete installation, right from beginning to the very end. That, dear friends, is exactly what we have done. Buddy Brannan and I sat down late on the evening of August 28, and we began to podcast. By the time we were done, Snow Leopard was installed on a brand new partition and up and running for the very first time. Sit back, relax, and get to know the newest and sleakest "big cat!" Here, Ikttie, Kittie, Kittie, it's Shane and Buddy, and we're going to install you!!! Here is the show. Thank you so much for listening!!!

Making Arabic Coffee!

Hello, faithful podcast subscribers! I've been telling those of you on Twitter and other social networking places that I would be making an Arabic coffee podcast as soon as I got the proper equipment. Well, it is finally here, and so is my shipment of wonderful Arabic coffee. On this show, we actually do make and drink Arabic coffee. I used an ibrik, which is a Turkish/Arabic coffee kettle. We put that on the burner and did our coffee making right here, and it was fantastic. If you would like more information about Arabic coffee, check out Coffee Break. The nice lady there would love to sell you some Arabic coffee, and she will even help you find traditional ibriks if you need them. A note to all listeners. Do *not* follow my advice on the podcast concerning the proper link to her site. I gave incorrect info in the show, so please do follow these show notes. If, for some reason you do not follow these notes, you won't get to the correct site. I'm sorry about that, but I'm not going back and re-editing the podcast just for that! LOL! Pitiful, right? Oh, well, sue me!!! See you on the next show!!!

Correcting some misunderstandings.

Hey, good podcast listeners. This is another brief one from Dennis Bartlett. Thanks, Dennis! In this one, Dennis clears up some misunderstandings about yesterday's iPhone productivity podcast in which some WIndows users were angered by some very minor remarks about Outlook. Certainly, we must all respect each other's views, and I do ask that my listeners respect Dennis' views on this matter. I will post no more podcasts concerning this, but Dennis does need to be allowed to clear up what was clearly not meant to set off a new Windows VS Mac war in the blind community. With that in mind, please enjoy the show. See you next time.

Productivity with the new iPhone 3G S.

Hi, all. This is a very brief podcast, and it comes to us from Canada. Our good friend, Dennis Bartlett, tells us how his iPhone is being used in a very productive way. What is quite unique about this one is the fact that Dennis actually recorded it on his iPhone. As far as I know, this may be one of the first podcast recordings done on the iPhone for the blind community. How cool is this!!! In any event, enjoy the show, and I will return very soon with another episode of the BlindWorld Blog and Podcast.

Booksense unboxing!!!

Hello, podcast listeners. It is time for another episode in the long list of BlindWorld podcasts!!! This time, we shift away from the Mac for a bit to focus on a new product from GW Micro, the makers of the Window-Eyes screen reader and the Braillesense notetaker. Today, we present to you a new pocket-sized book player that they have come out with, known as the Booksense. A very dear friend of mine, Buddy Brannan, will demonstrate this unit after he unboxes it for you! He gives you a brief tour of the unit, and you get to see him use it for the very first time! Join Buddy as he unpacks his new toy on this episode of the BlindWorld Podcast! Here is a special note for you! Listen very carefully to the introduction to this podcast!!! Doesn't Buddy's beautiful daughter, Alina, sound just too sweet? She's awesome!!! Thanks for doing that cool intro, Alina, and thanks to Buddy for the show. Look to hear Alina on future episodes as well!!!

iPhone Podcast 3: THE IPHONE!!!

Now, after talking about it, after getting it, after feeling how smooth and sexy it is in the hand, we put it through its paces! Join Darcy Burnard, Buddy Brannan, Jessie Hernandez, and I as we introduce you to the iPhone in a big way. We discuss the iPhone at length, we take the phone through its home screen, visit the phone app itself, take a look at browsing the web and sending messages, as well as talking about the compass! After that, we do some more cool things with the iPod section of the iPhone, and we talk about how much of a revolution this is for the blind community. We also give a shout out to our very fine friends at Serotek and talk about their wonderful contributions to the discussion of the Iphone and the Apple platform, although they are a Windows screen reading manufacturer. Thanks, Mike, and all the folks over there. We hope you enjoy this one as well as we did! Now, sit back, find your favorite beverage, and listen to the iPhone!!! Thanks to the participants, and a big thanks especially to Darcy Burnard for his wonderful hosting job! Also, a huge thanks to Jessie Hernandez for believing that I could figure this thing out in less than two days! Finally, thanks to Buddy Brannan for being another brand new guest on the BlindWorld podcast. We hope you like this show, and we intend to do more, here at BLindWorld, so stay tuned.

Thursday night, I began the count-down with some musings. This first show is the first of a a series that now numbers three podcasts concerning the iPhone. I expect it to grow bigger, but for now, it's a trio. Enjoy, please!!!

Nfb Trashes Mac!

Hello, all. The Screenless Switchers Podcast has just posted a rebuttal to a horrifying article about Mac OS X that is to be published by the National Federation of the BLind. This is the second time this organization has trashed Mac OS X, and it is absolutely disgraceful. I received permission from the owners of The Screenless Switchers Podcast to air their episode on our show. Please click here to listen. As a slight warning, I will tell you that this episode is very long, over 2 hours. Please do listen to the whole thing, though, as it is most relevant and very thorough. Thank you.

Podcast on using Twitter with your Mobile Phone!

Good evening, morning, afternoon, whatever it is where you are!!! I am here with a long-anticipated podcast, and I appreciate those of you who have faithfully waited for me. Last evening, or early this morning, Steve Sawczyn, Jessie Hernandez and I did a really neat show on using Twitter with mobile phone technology and access software. We focused on JibJib, which is a java application fur using Twitter; and we also focused on Twikini, a very accessible Windows Mobile Twitter client. We had a ball doing this one, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Click here for the show and listen to your heart's content. I am also going to forward a link to the show over to the developer of Twikini, so maybe we'll get this guy some well-deserved publicity. Many blind persons are enjoying the benefits of his program, so let's help him all we can. See you all next time!

Twikini!!!

Hey, you all. Shane Jackson, here, with something you all just might find of great interest, especially if you use a Windows Mobile phone! This is a new twitter app for both Windows Mobile standard and Windows Mobile Professional, and it is called Twikini I really think it would be worth you checking this little gem out, as I have. Now, if you are totally blind, as I am, there is even more good news. This program works really well with Mobile Speak Pocket, a screen reader for Windows Mobile users who rely on speech, Braille, and magnification, and you really can't beat the price. Also, I know I'm supposed to post a screenshot of Twikini, if I want to get the program for free, but alas, being totally blind, I'm not sure how to do that just yet! I'll try, though. Maybe it will work. Let's see, here. This should be a picture of Twikini in action, so maybe that is good enough. I sure hope so. Anyway, I'm off to bed. You all go and look at this program, and put it to good use on your phones! Happy tweeting!
